Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology and other new stuff

Don't get the idea that we are putting all of our eggs into the renovation basket! While we're getting new carpets and paint and furniture, we're also getting new books and journals and databases at a pretty regular rate. There are always at least a few titles on the New Books shelf (today I see Brain's Diseases of the Nervous System, Chesley's Hypertensive Disorders in Pregnancy and the Handbook of Clinical Anesthesia, among others). We've also been getting some new online resources that we'll be spotlighting in the next little while. The first one I wanted to mention is the frequently requested Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology. Access it from the link above or from our e-books page (as usual, you'll have to log in with your Mount Sinai ID if you're off campus) to find clear explanations of the mechanisms of disease and treatment, complete with lots of graphs and illustrations. New E-Journal Collection

The Levy Library has licensed a new collection of E-Journals from Adis.  Adis journals provide up-to-date information on all aspects of drug development, clinical pharmacology, medical biotechnology, pharmacoeconomics and disease management.  Adis' peer-reviewed journals are among the most-cited publications in their respective fields, and provide a unique blend of original articles and authoritative reviews, drug profiles and evaluations.

Epocrates Now Available for BlackBerry

Epocrates has just announced that its popular free drug software, Epocrates RX, is now available in a format specifically designed for the BlackBerry. This free download will allow you to view over 3,000 brand and generic medications on your BlackBerry.  Speaking of Epocrates, the Levy Library has obtained discounts for MSSM students and residents who wish to purchase one of the non-free Epocrates products like Epocrates Essentials.  For more information please email Alan Krissoff.   

USP DI Drug Information for the Health Care Professional is replaced with DrugPoints

Effective last week, the USP DI Drug Information for the Health Care Professional has been succeeded by a new drug resource called DrugPoints Based on user feedback and market research that showed point-of-care users preferred a more streamlined presentation, Thomson/Micromedex has decided to replace USP DI Volume I: Drug Information for the Health Care Professional with the newly enhanced DrugPoints® System. USP DI will cease to exist.  According to the publisher, DrugPoints will provide comparable drug information, and will feature Black Box Warnings, images, and a new toxicology section not currently available in USP DI.  DrugPoints will also include expanded evidence-based medicine ratings of drug indications. MICROMEDEX: New Platform

Mount Sinai's platform for the premiere drug resource MICROMEDEX has changed.  When you access MICROMEDEX you will now be searching it through the Thomson interface.  The same components are available, including: Interactions, IV compatiblity, PDA downloads, and Patient Education.  From the main homepage, select "MICROMEDEX Healthcare Series."  To limit your search to PDR, Martindale's or one of the other databases offered in MICROMEDEX, click "Select Databases" on the next screen.  Another post will detail new functions and enhancements that are now available in MICROMEDEX. 

Wiley Handbook of Current and Emerging Drug Therapies

We now have access to the Wiley Handbook of Current and Emerging Drug Therapies, a comprehensive resource for biomedical, pharmaceutical, and drug discovery research.  Content from this e-book is  being updated in an ongoing basis by the publisher.  Access to the Wiley Handbook of Current and Emerging Drug Therapies is available on the Library's E-books page.
