USMLE Study Resources

Step 1 Study season is here and we'd like to remind everyone that the Library provides access to many USMLE Review Resources for Steps 1, 2, and 3, including popular question banks like ExamMaster and USMLEasy, high-yield study ebooks from ebrary and Stat!Ref that can be used on your mobile device, and, of course, print books that are still available in the library. Based on lots of positive feedback from our Step-1-studying 2nd year medical students, the Library has officially subscribed to the popular USMLE study resource, USMLEasy!  If you signed up for a personal account during our trial access, you should experience seamless access - no need to register for a new account.

USMLEasy contains thousands of practice USMLE questions for Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3.  It also allows you to create customized tests, to track your performance by topic and your test scores over time, and to review selected readings from the Lange books targeted for you based on your test results.

Access USMLEasy from the Library's Database page under USMLE and Board Preparation.    

And, best of luck for those of you still taking Step 1 this year!

Case Reviews Online: New Radiology Resource

If you said, D. All of the Above, you're correct!  Case Reviews Online, the online version of the popular Case Reviews book series, is now available from the Library's database page.  Study from hundreds of clinical cases featuring high quality images, review with multiple choice questions, and create customized tests (timed and un-timed). Currently, the online resource contains 8 imaging modules: Brain, Emergency, Head and Neck, Interventional, Musculoskeletal, Thoracic, Spine, and Pediatrics.  Coming later in 2011 are four additional modules.     

 

New! More Online Medical Textbooks

Starting to think about the USMLE? Regretting that you gave away those textbooks you thought you'd never want to see again after your first semester? Good news! The Levy Library has just acquired a new online collection of core medical textbooks. You may already know MDConsult as an excellent source for medical ebooks, clinical practice guidelines and patient education handouts. Now its content has been expanded with the full text of some of the most popular medical textbooks, including MSSM course texts like Gray's Anatomy for Students, Gordis' Epidemiology and Moore & Persaud's The Developing Human.

You can access the new ebooks several ways:

1. Search by title on our E-Books page.
2. Search by title, author or keyword in our Library Catalog.
3. Search across the whole MDConsult collection by following the MDConsult link on our Databases page.

Free Test Prep Ebooks from Kaplan

USMLE, NCLEX-RN, MCAT, GRE? iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, eReader, Nook? Until January 10, Kaplan is offering free downloads of 130 popular eBooks, including many test prep titles. The titles don't expire (i.e., once you download it, it stays on your device until you delete it) so if you are faced with one of these exams in the next few months you might want to grab a free eBook now to help you prepare. Also available are many other educational titles like the Cleveland Clinic Guides, Kaplan 101 Algebra Practice Questions, Sharp Grammar, and the fascinatingly titled Caffeine Will Not Help You Pass That Test. Extended Library Hours

Levy Library has extended the hours it is open to accommodate study for Board and other exams that take place over the next month.  Starting Sunday, May 16 and continuing through the weekend of June 12th and 13th, the Library will be staying open until 9:50 on Friday and Saturday evenings and opening at 10 AM Sunday mornings.  
 
Levy Library hours during this period are:
Monday – Thursday: 7:45 am – 11:50 pm
Friday: 7:45 am – 9:50 pm
Saturday: 9:00 am – 9:50 pm
Sunday: 10:00 am – 11:50 pm

USMLE and Board Review Resources

If you are one of the many students or residents who will be taking a USMLE or Board Certification exam this year, be sure to take a look at the library's USMLE study resources.  We provide a variety of review aids including question banks and quizzes like ExamMaster Online and USMLEasyLite, and online review books like the Lange Basic Science series, First Aid for the USMLE Step 1, First Aid for the USMLE Step 2, and First Aid for the USMLE Step 3.  And, if you haven't checked out WikiTestPrep, a popular question bank for Step 1 and Step 2 authored by our very own Mount Sinai medical students, now is the time!  And, of course we also have many review books in the library, both on reserve and available for check out (section W 18.2).  Please see our online guide for more information about USMLE study resources.  And, happy studying!

Videos, Animations, Images...

AccessMedicine just added a new animated video to the online version of Goodman & Gilman's Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics. It's a quick visual overview of atrial myocyte electrophysiology, and it's part of a small but growing collection of animations of concepts from the book. It's also a reminder of all the other great stuff on AccessMedicine: medical videos, images to download for presentations, self-assessments for the USMLE, and of course constantly updated versions of classic textbooks that you can access anywhere, from any computer with internet access.

And just in case you're wondering, we do still have a print copy of Goodman & Gilman - it's on reserve behind the circulation desk, call number QV 4 G653 2006. No videos on those pages though!

EXAM MASTER Change

Starting September 3rd, 2007, you will need to access EXAM MASTER from the Library's database page for off-campus access. (Previously, you could sign on without doing this.) Users will also be required to register using their Mount Sinai institutional email address (mssm.edu or mountsinai.org). If you previously registered with another email address, you may change your email address by logging into Exam Master and clicking on My Account and then going to My Profile.  This change is necessary for us to protect Mount Sinai's license to this valuable resource.

EXAM MASTER is a test preparation and medical subject review licensed by the Levy Library.  It contains test questions for USMLE Step 1 (9000+ questions), USMLE Step 2 (5000+ questions), and USMLE Step 3 (3000+ questions), among others. Board Certification Review aids cover Family Practice, General Pediatrics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, Pathology and SPEX.
